3.5. Check of a condition of tires and pressure of their rating, rotation of wheels

The conscientious attitude to regular check of a condition of tires will allow the driver to avoid the annoying delays connected with a wheel exit out of operation during the movement. Besides, on the nature of wear of protectors it is possible to reveal beforehand the defects of components of a suspension bracket and the steering drive which are at a stage of development.

Being included in a basic equipment of the cars considered in the present manual the wheels equipped with the special indicator tapes having width about 12 mm and which are shown on a protector pattern at wear of the last to an admissible limit enter. The minimum admissible depth of a protector makes 1.6 mm.

It is possible to estimate degree of wear of a protector by means of special inexpensive adaptation — ask in shops of automobile accessories.

Pay attention to any signs of uneven wear of a protector.

CUP-SHAPED DEFECTS

The following reasons of formation of cup-shaped defects are possible:

    Tires are pumped too poorly up, or the mechanical deviation (violation of balancing of a wheel or deformation of a disk) takes place. Fastening of steering drafts of the steering drive weakened, or their tips are worn-out. Components of a forward suspension bracket are damaged or worn-out, or their fastening weakened

Such local defects as cup-shaped wipe, flattening, etc., are usually obliged by the emergence to violations of angles of installation of forward wheels, or balancing of the last. For identification and elimination of malfunctions the car should be driven away in a specialized workshop of car service or on car repair shop.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Attentively examine tires of all wheels on existence of cuts, punctures and the foreign objects which got stuck in flutes of a pattern of a protector. Sometimes the punched wheel during even some time continues to hold in itself air in view of the fact that the subject which punctured the tire continues to remain thrust in it. Defect of the nipple of the gate of a rating of a wheel can be the reason of slow sinking of the tire — check a condition of the nipple.
    Attentively examine a protector on existence of the foreign objects and signs of violation of tightness of landing of repair "traffic jams" which got stuck in it by means of which repair of small punctures of the tire is made. It is rather simple to make sure available a puncture — it is enough to moisten the suspected site of a surface of the tire with solution of soap water — if the puncture takes place, solution will begin to bubble. Punctures, insignificant in size, usually easily are eliminated in tire workshops.
    Attentively examine internal walls of tires of all four wheels on existence of potek of brake fluid on them. In case of identification of those immediately check a condition of the corresponding brake mechanisms and the hydraulic lines connected to them. Support of the required pressure of a rating of tires will allow to prolong significantly service life of wheels, besides, will provide the maximum comfort at the movement and will not allow to reduce controllability of the car. Remember that correctly it is almost impossible to measure pressure in the tire by eye, in particular, if it is about tires of a radial design. It is necessary to hold constantly near at hand the suitable manometer — indications of measuring instruments of compressors of pumping on gas stations and car repair shops should not be trusted. Check pressure of a rating of tires at cold wheels — it is meant that the car passed no more than one mile within the last three hours. Remember that increase in pressure upon 0.3 — 0.6 kgfs/cm 2 as a result of a warming up of a wheel is quite natural phenomenon.
    Remove a protective cap from the wheel rating gate and densely press a manometer nozzle to an exhaust outlet of the gate, having wrung out a nipple rod. Consider the read instrument and compare it to standard data, in case of need correct pressure.
    Do not forget to screw on the place a protective cap of the gate in order to avoid hit in the nipple of moisture and dirt. Check pressure in all wheels, including spare.

Pressure of a rating of the spare wheel of compact type is usually much higher, than at usual wheels.

Rotation of wheels has to be made regularly according to the schedule of routine maintenance of the car, and also at identification of signs of uneven wear of protectors. At rotation the car has to be lifted above the ground — take an opportunity and check also a condition of components of the brake system (see Check of the brake system).

Authors of this manual recommend to make rotation of the wheels equipped with radial tires according to the offered schemes (see the illustrations Recommended Order of Rotation of Wheels Completed with Tires S NENENAPRAVLENNYM a protector and the Recommended order of rotation of the wheels completed with tires With the DIRECTED protector). The majority of models are completed with tires with the directed protector — it is easy to distinguish the directed tires on existence on a sidewall of the arrow specifying the right direction of rotation of a wheel. Two tires with the right direction of rotation and two — with left have to be included in the package.

It will be most correct to lift above the ground all car — use for fixing of the car in the lifted situation less than four props is inadmissible by no means!

Upon completion of rotation check pressure of a rating of tires, correct it according to standard requirements. Make sure of reliability of fastening of wheels nuts (ideally wheel bolts should be tightened a dynamometer key and to make repeated check through 40 km of a run).
